Some companies can not afford to leak important data. If an employee copies sensitive files to a removable memory device and shares them, the company's losses could be massive in some cases. If you want to prevent this, you need to set up a series of restrictions on your computers and USB Lock RP will help you. It lets you prevent users from connecting storage devices to your computers. You can enable various blocks, authorize devices, monitor file transfers and more, from a control interface, which you need to install on your own computer.

USB Lock RP comes in a 5.16 Mb package, which contains two setup files. One of them will install the software's control module, while the other will install the client. When installing the client, you will have to specify the name or IP address of the computer on which you install the control module. You may also type a port number which you want to use, but this is optional.

The software's client module will monitor the computer on which you install it. The control module gives you the possibility of allowing or denying a user to plug in various devices. Once the client is installed, the computer's name and IP address will appear on your control interface, in the upper right corner. If you select a computer, you will see additional information, next to the list, as well as options for generating reports, changing passwords and more.

The lower half of the interface is where you will find the main controls. You can deny a user's ability of plugging in USB or Bluetooth devices, inserting CDs or DVDs or connecting to Wi-Fi networks. These protections can be enabled or disabled by clicking a series of lock icons. If a user attempts to insert or connect one of the aforementioned devices on a monitored computer, while the protection features are active, an alert will be displayed on his screen, blocking the computer entirely, until he removes the devices. For example, if he tries to insert a CD, the software will eject it automatically and it will unblock the computer only when the empty CD tray is closed.

If an alarm is triggered, the software's control module will notify you. Additionally, the options on its interface allow you to generate detailed reports about alerts and the status of a monitored computer. Other controls make it possible to authorize individual devices. This requires plugging the device into the client's computer, because the software will use its serial number to identify it. If a USB storage device is authorized, it is possible to monitor file transfers, from a client computer to the USB device and use the information to generate reports. A series of small buttons are located in the bottom area of the control interface and you can use them to reboot a selected computer, shut it down, uninstall the client module remotely, retrieve system information and see a history of granted or denied permissions and many other events. You can uninstall the client from the control interface because the client works in stealth mode. The user will not find it in the system tray or the Windows Uninstaller.

Pros

USB Lock RP will prevent users from connecting storage devices to one or more computers. The software's control module makes it possible to monitor multiple computers remotely, set up permissions and exceptions or execute certain actions, like rebooting or shutting down. It can also monitor file transfers and it lets you generate detailed reports.

Cons

You may have to experiment with the software, at least with authorizing devices, before using it for your intended purposes. While using USB Lock RP, your company's sensitive data will be secure at all times. The software is capable of blocking any storage device, generating file transfer reports and much more.
